
Accounting Manager
Position Description
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) develops and manages service enriched, inclusive residential communities, ensuring access to affordable, secure, quality housing that creates the foundation for our residents to grow and thrive.
An industry leader since 1981, CEDC has built 45 affordable housing developments totaling close to 1,700 ownership and rental units. It currently has an ownership interest in 1,137 rental units that it manages. CEDC has an annual operating budget of $6,750,000 and multiple projects in the early stages of development.
THE POSITION:
The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for analyzing and preparing financial information and reports, balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports. Perform full-service accounting duties including bank account reconciliations, processing of cash receipts and cash disbursements, audit schedules, construction accounting, and deferred interest calculations. Also, provide backup for payroll duties as needed. Reports to include monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for CFO as needed for the monthly board meeting.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific job goals, objectives and tasks are established for each employee as part of the annual evaluation and work plan process. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Performs accounting tasks to provide accurate and timely financial reports to internal management as well as to external Owners, Partners and Lenders as needed.
• Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures
• Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within established limits.
• Construction accounting and draw requests (including A/P, A/R and bank draws)
• Job cost accounting will be performed for all development projects.
• Process checks with support back-up and approvals
• Daily/weekly bank deposits
• Perform account analysis on all balance sheet account and select income and expense accounts.
• Perform budget variance analysis on a quarterly basis.
• Assist in the processing of the 1099s at year-end for vendors
• Budget entering into accounting software system
• Audit workpapers (with direction from CFO)
• Monthly division summary budget reports for Revenue and Expenses (detail GL if requested)
• Maintain CEDC financial files and all financial grant and loan agreements (with direction from CFO)
• Provide payroll backup as needed
• Attend necessary training workshops.
• Other duties as per the direction of the CFO
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
• Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration Accounting, Finance, or Business.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
• 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience
• Understanding of real estate accounting principles and financial reporting procedures with ability to analyze variances.
• Familiarity with Nonprofit, multi-funded organization desirable.
• Familiarity with government grants regulations.
• Construction accounting experience
• Computer proficient.
• Strong professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to create and maintain positive relationship with staff and external stakeholders at all levels.
• Must possess a valid California driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and access to a dependable form of transportation.
• Sensitive to the needs and concerns of low-income people and possess a commitment to affordable housing.
PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
• Familiarity with Nonprofit, multi-funded organization desirable.
• Familiarity with government grants regulations desirable.
• Knowledge of low-income funding compliance conditions desirable.
• Experience with Yardi software is preferred, but not required.
• Sensitive to the needs and concerns of low-income people and possess a commitment to affordable housing
LICENSES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California driver’s License and proof of automobile liability insurance.
