The Hughart Family
Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation’s NeighborWorks® Homeownership Center team assisted the Hughart family in securing an affordable loan for a home in Ventura. They received a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage that fit their family’s budget. In addition, because Dave is a city of Ventura employee, the Hughart’s qualified for up to 30 percent of the purchase price or $150,000 from the city’s Housing Assistance Program.
“In the end, it came down to the monthly payment, what we could afford and what made sense for us,” said Laura Hugart. “It feels like we’re going to make a really nice life in this house.”
The Aguilera Family
Cabrillo’s HOC also helped preserve the Aguilera’s home. “CEDC helped us regain peace and happiness,” said Armando Aguilera. “It feels really nice to know that we are able to keep a roof over our heads after becoming unemployed and that our language was not a barrier. We can sleep better at night knowing that we don’t have to choose between eating and paying the mortgage during this difficult time.” Armando also returned to school in order to find a better paying job.
