This quarter’s Star of the Quarter, HR Representative Maritza Carranza, is recognized for her commitment to supporting employees, strengthening workplace relationships, and advancing CEDC’s mission through compassion and integrity.
Having been with the organization for a year and a half, Maritza approaches her work with gratitude and humility. “I am very honored, but I couldn’t have done it on my own! I have great colleagues around me – especially my manager, Brenda,” she said. Her appreciation for teamwork is evident in the way she collaborates with others and contributes to a positive workplace culture.
Maritza embraces the variety that comes with her role. From interviews and recruiting to answering employee questions, coordinating leave requests, and managing background checks, no two days are the same. She enjoys serving as a resource for employees and helping ensure they have the support they need to succeed. Her work plays a critical role in attracting and onboarding individuals who embody the organization’s values. “My role provides the support and bringing in of ideal candidates that bring compassion and empathy and integrity for the company and the community we serve,” she said.
One of Maritza’s proudest accomplishments has been building stronger relationships between Human Resources and employees. She has helped create an environment where team members feel comfortable reaching out for guidance and support. By fostering trust and open communication, Maritza has helped redefine HR as a welcoming and supportive partner within the organization.
Maritza also demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement. Within her department, she has developed tracking systems that streamline processes and improve efficiency for both employees and applicants. These systems have made it easier to monitor important tasks and ensure a smoother experience for everyone involved. Her efforts reflect the organizational skills and accountability that she views as essential to success.
At the heart of Maritza’s work are the values of empathy, communication, and accountability. She believes that truly listening to others and helping them navigate challenges are key to serving both colleagues and residents effectively. Whether mentoring team members, guiding employees through workplace concerns, or helping individuals access important resources, she strives to approach every interaction with understanding and care.
Maritza was drawn to Cabrillo EDC because of its strong commitment to integrity and equal opportunity. She values the organization’s focus on providing resources, improving processes, and ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need. What motivates her most is the larger impact of the work being done every day. “The end goal is ensuring that individuals have a roof over their head, a safe place, and a home they can call their own,” she said.
Looking ahead, Maritza is focused on professional growth and expanding her expertise in human resources. One of her major goals is earning her SHRM certification, a milestone she is actively pursuing with the encouragement and support of her supervisor.
Through her dedication, leadership, and genuine care for others, Maritza exemplifies what it means to be a Star of the Quarter. We are proud to recognize her contributions to our employees, our residents, and our mission, and we thank her for the positive impact she continues to make every day. Congratulations Maritza!
