     A Message from our CEO

We are proud to share some exciting milestones that reflect both the strength of our mission and the dedication of our Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) community.

This summer, we proudly celebrated the grand opening of Dolores Huerta Gardens, a development that not only provides high-quality affordable housing but also honors the legacy of an extraordinary civil rights leader.  The opening was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when we come together with a shared commitment to equity, justice, and community.

We are also excited to share that CEDC was honored with three awards at the SCANPH Homes Within Reach Awards. These recognitions celebrate the impact of our developments, the strength of our partnerships, and our unwavering commitment to expanding affordable housing across the region. Receiving acknowledgment from our peers in the affordable housing sector is a testament to the hard work and vision of our staff, board, and community partners.

These moments remind us why we do this work: to create vibrant communities where families can thrive. As we look ahead, CEDC remains committed to building more affordable housing, advancing equity, and empowering residents to shape their futures. As we look forward to opening the doors of our newest development, Village Senior Apartments in Buellton, CA, we are charged with these reminders to continue the hard work of building inclusive, vibrant communities for all.

We thank you for being a part of this journey with us. Your continued support helps us turn bold visions into reality.

With gratitude,

Victoria Brady
Chief Executive Officer

Dolores Huerta Gardens Opens Its Doors

On September 5, Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) celebrated the grand opening of Dolores Huerta Gardens apartments, a 58-unit affordable housing community in Ventura County designed to provide safe, sustainable homes for farmworkers and unhoused veterans.

The development, named after labor and civil rights icon Dolores Huerta, reflects her lifelong fight for justice and equity. With 19 one-bedroom, 21 two-bedroom, and 18 three-bedroom units, the apartments will help address the region’s urgent housing crisis and create opportunities for families to thrive.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dolores Huerta joined elected officials, community leaders, project partners, and residents to celebrate this important milestone. Speakers emphasized how vital affordable housing is during a time of growing need across Ventura County.

CEDC Star Employee of the Quarter: Sid Gomez

We are proud to celebrate Isidro “Sid” Gomez, CEDC’s Employee of the Quarter!

Sid has been with Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation for nearly 10 years, serving as a Senior Maintenance Tech Rover specializing in plumbing and special trades. His journey with CEDC began unexpectedly—what started as a temporary role quickly became a career filled with purpose.

Before joining CEDC, Sid was a journeyman plumber working on construction tracks. Over the years, he witnessed CEDC grow and build more and more communities. What drew him in was not just the work, but the mission. As Sid explains:“They do more work for farmworkers, people in need, and people with mental health issues, which I think is pretty golden.”

For Sid, every day brings new challenges and opportunities: “There’s never a dull moment in what I do because everything is something new everywhere I go.”

His commitment and expertise have made a lasting impact on residents and colleagues alike.

Sid’s dedication reflects this same commitment, ensuring that families not only have a place to live but a safe and well-cared-for community to call home.

We are proud to honor Sid for his years of service and for being a shining example of what it means to live CEDC’s mission every day.
