     A Message from our CEO

As we reflect on the work of Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (Cabrillo EDC), I am reminded that our purpose has always been rooted in people. Every day, we have the privilege of standing alongside individuals and families who are facing challenges, striving for stability, and working toward a brighter future. Their resilience inspires us, and it reinforces our commitment to creating opportunities, removing barriers, and helping build stronger communities for all.

The need for our services remains significant. Across our region, many continue to struggle with housing affordability, food insecurity, economic uncertainty, and access to resources that can help them thrive. While we are proud of the progress we have made together, we know that there is still important work ahead. Meaningful change requires dedication, partnership, and a shared commitment to uplifting those who need support the most.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in.” These words continue to resonate today and serve as a guiding reminder of why our work matters. They challenge us to lead with compassion, advocate for equity, and remain steadfast in our efforts to expand opportunity for everyone in our community.

This newsletter highlights the impact we are making together and the partnerships that make that impact possible. I am grateful to our staff, board members, volunteers, supporters, and community partners whose dedication allows Cabrillo EDC to continue serving those in need. As we look to the future, I am confident that by working together, we can meet the challenges before us and create lasting positive change.

Thank you for your continued support of Cabrillo EDC and the communities we serve.

With Appreciation,

Victoria Brady
Chief Executive Officer

Cabrillo EDC's “Summer to Remember” Youth Program Memories

After eight weeks of learning, creativity, and connection, Cabrillo EDC’s inaugural Summer to Remember program has wrapped up a successful first season.

Held in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme, the youth enrichment initiative was designed to support children and teens living in Cabrillo EDC’s affordable housing communities throughout Ventura County.

Created to provide safe, engaging, and structured summer experiences close to home, the program offered a blend of recreational activities, academic enrichment, creative exploration, and community-building opportunities. This year’s program was hosted at the Dolores Huerta Garden Apartments in Oxnard, bringing meaningful learning and enrichment directly to participating residents.

As Bianca Farmer, Director of Resident and Community Services stated, “Summer to Remember is so much more than summer activities, it’s about creating meaningful experiences, building connections, and giving young people in our communities a summer filled with opportunities,” said Bianca Farmer, Director of Resident and Community Services at Cabrillo EDC. “Seeing their excitement, hearing the positive feedback from families, and knowing we helped create special memories for youth who may not otherwise have had these opportunities make this program truly meaningful.”
