On September 5, 2025, Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) proudly celebrated the grand opening of Dolores Huerta Gardens in Ventura County, a milestone achievement in our ongoing commitment to affordable housing and community development.
This new 58-unit development offers safe, sustainable, and affordable homes for farmworkers and unhoused veterans, addressing urgent housing needs in our region. The property includes 19 one-bedroom units, 21 two-bedroom units, and 18 three-bedroom units, designed to support families, seniors, and individuals striving for stability.
Named in honor of legendary labor and civil rights leader Dolores Huerta, the development reflects her lifelong dedication to justice, equity, and empowerment. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Dolores Huerta joined an inspiring lineup of speakers, including Mayor of Oxnard Luis McArthur, Ventura County Supervisor Vianey Lopez, and Tomiquia Moss, Secretary of the California Business, Consumer Services, and Housing Agency, alongside community leaders and residents.
“Dolores Huerta Gardens is a foundation for families to build brighter futures,” said Victoria Brady, CEO of Cabrillo EDC. “This community reflects our deep commitment to providing safe, affordable housing for those who need it most, and to creating spaces where residents can truly thrive.”
Echoing this, Derrick Wada, Director of Real Estate Development at Cabrillo EDC, noted, “Our work goes beyond bricks and mortar, we’re building places where seniors can age with dignity, farmworkers can rest after a hard day’s work, and families can build better futures.”
The event highlighted not only the power of collaboration between public and private partners but also the importance of timing, meeting Ventura County’s housing challenges during a period of rising affordability pressures.
CEDC extends heartfelt gratitude to the many partners, supporters, and community members who made Dolores Huerta Gardens a reality. This development is more than housing; it’s a symbol of resilience, dignity, and opportunity.
